Extending an Ethernet segment over a long distance is not expensive or complicated. The cost-effective CL1314R rugged Ethernet extender manufactured by Patton Electronics uses twisted-pair wires to connect remote networks and devices over 6.2 miles (10 km) apart. That distance is well beyond the standard 328-foot (100-meter) Ethernet limit. The CL1314R offers the highest possible speed for the given distance and electromagnetic environment. It determines the best achievable data rate or users may select the desired speed. Featuring plug-and-play installation, the CL1314R offers hassle-free set-up and operation. No user-configuration is required.
The CL1314R implements a twisted-pair line interface between two CL1314R units (one is Local and the other Remote). Equipped with a 4-port Fast Ethernet switch, it combines the data streams of four Ethernet devices or LANs and transmits it over the line interface. Standard 0.5 mm (24 AWG) voice-grade wiring delivers speeds up to 15.3 Mbps. Users set the desired line rate using a DIP switch bank, HTTP, or console Telnet. The CL1314R transparently passes all higher-layer protocols such as VLAN tagging, multicast addressing, VPN pass-through for IPsec, and IP-video compression schemes. Commonly used industrial protocols like MODBUS/TCP and PROFINET IO are also transparently passed.
