The CopperLink CL2300E from Patton Electronics is a cost-effective, managed Ethernet extender capable of achieving data rates of 60 Mbps over long distances. It extends Ethernet segments to IP-enabled devices and remote LANs using an existing copper infrastructure. The CL2300E is mostly used for LRE (Long Range Ethernet), but it is also an excellent solution for point-to-point connectivity in environments with interference and noise. The CL2300E is ideal for SCADA systems, wireless backhaul, camera and sensor feeds, and dedicated LAN to LAN links between industrial networks. With an extended operating temperature, conformal coated circuit board, and rugged enclosure, it stands up to harsh environments to offer the reliability needed by critical networks.

The CL2300E models employ wire-bonding technology to combine from 1 to 4 twisted pairs into a single Ethernet connection to boost overall bandwidth and distance. Each pair is capable of up 5.7 Mbps to 15.3 Mbps depending on the segment length. Symmetrical speeds above 22.8 Mbps at distances of 2 miles are possible using up to 4 twisted-pairs (8-wire), a single CAT-5, or higher rated cable. Pair bonding on 4 pairs offers bandwidth over 60 Mbps. Six user-selectable line-rate modes and pair-bonding settings control the rate and reach, which enable service providers, integrators, and businesses to deploy the best speed for the given distance. High-level management offers network control for more complex applications. The network management port is securely protected. Stateful Firewall inspection of traffic, accomplished through the creation of Access Control Lists (ACLs), filters traffic based on numerous criteria including source and destination IP address, port, connection state, and protocol. Logical and physical ports are selectable for bridging. Features such as VLANs are configurable on a per-port basis. Bridged traffic can be tagged and prioritized according to user-defined parameters.

The CL2300 offers easy installation and management. In the default plug-and-play mode, installers need only connect the cables and power up. The CL2300E will tune to the best achievable rate when power is applied. Patton’s auto-rate adaptation feature negotiates the best possible rate and reach for each wire pair. Should one wire-pair fail, the CL2300E will automatically adjust the line rate to ensure a stable connection. The CL2300E may be configured using a CLI via a console port (RS232), Telnet/SSH, HTTP web-based commands, SNMP, and Patton’s Cloud manager.
