The TD-1580 (to DTE) and TD-1581 (to DCE) pair offer a versatile and affordable method for extending RS-422 and EIA-530 serial lines. The DB-25 connectors are pinned to support a TIA-530 serial link directly. Transparency and flexibility allow the TD-1580/TD-1581 modules to be arranged as 6x4 independent 6 Mbps RS-422 channels and 2x1 independent 256 Kbps RS-232 channels. By using FiberPlex’s unique technology, all clock, data, and control signals are entirely independent of one another. It supports several configurations:  four (4) bi-directional RS-422 serial channels with two (2) unidirectional RS-422 and one (1) bi-directional RS-232 with one (1) unidirectional RS-232; or, six (6) RS-422 in one direction and four (4) in the other (6x4) and two (2) RS-232 in one direction and one (1) in the other (2x1)

The TD-1580 and TD-1581 pair solves several serial communications issues. Serial links can not only be combined but extended to over 20 km on a single fiber pair. SCADA, telecommunications, factory automation, and DMX lighting control projects gain from this solution. For advanced systems, a ‘Regeneration’ switch on the TD-1581 toggles between synchronous mode requiring Send Timing (ST) and asynchronous or synchronous modes that need Terminal Timing (TT).
