Patton WDM8 and WDM16 Active Wave Division Multiplexer (WDM) with 8 or 16 SFP Interfaces

The WDM8 and WDM16 from Patton Electronics are active wave division multiplexers (WDM) that combine up to 8 or 16 sources of data on a single fiber pair. Each channel, brought to an SFP slot, may be linked via fiber with FiberPlex FOM, FOI, or TD Series fiber modules; FiberPlex LightViper; or third-party fiber-optic equipment. With data rates from 50 Mbps up to 3 Gbps per channel, the WDM8 and WDM16 support maximum aggregate data rates of 24 and 48 Gbps, respectively. The WDM multiplexers are ideal for campus connectivity, distributed security, data centers, broadcast, live A/V production, and telecom consolidation.

Generic SFP slots in the WDM multiplexers accommodate a vast selection of SFP modules. Any SFP that conforms to the Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) may be inserted, even copper-based SFP ones for Gigabit Ethernet, HD and 3G-SDI video, HDMI, audio over fiber, and MADI. Each channel accepts single-mode or multi-mode optics, coax, or CAT5 SFP modules.

The WDM16 and WDM8A are equivalent except for the number of Active Wave Division channels and the associated internal wavelengths each unit supports. The chassis dimensions and power supplies are identical. The WDM16 supports all of the 16 standard CWDM (Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing) wavelengths from 1310 to 1610 nm. The WDM8A supports only the upper 8 wavelengths from 1470 to 1610 nm. Because of the enormous flexibility of the WDM systems, the wavelengths of the internal channels are invisible and irrelevant to the end-user.
