The Cisco IR1005-G2 Rugged Router is based on decades of industrial and enterprise routing expertise. The IR1005-G2 delivers robust connectivity in an ultra-compact, energy-efficient design, making it ideal for distribution and renewable energy sites where space and power are limited. Built from the ground up to address a variety of industrial use cases including utilities, the IR1005-G2 router helps ensure reliable remote monitoring of assets such as capacitor bank controllers in Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR) environments - even those using solar or battery power. With a power draw of under 5 watts and integrated sleep mode functionality, the IR1005-G2 increases cabinet battery life, extending uptime and enhancing the availability of other connected assets. Its low power consumption expands visibility and control to previously hard-to-reach locations, driving greater operational efficiency while reducing energy usage.

The IR1005-G2 is designed to withstand hostile environments, including shock, dust, humidity and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). This durability makes it ideal for harsh industrial and distributed IoT deployments such as transportation, oil and gas, distribution substations, industrial automation, and financial institutions.

Compared to the IR1001-G the IR1005-G2 features greater visibility and control of security for complex traffic flows at the edge. It supports post-quantum secure platform storage, Cisco Cyber Vision and ThousandEyes network assurance, and advanced threat protction.

Software Licensing

The IR1000 Series offers two software tiers - Cisco IR OS Essentials or Cisco IR OS Advantage. The Essentials license offers the essential elements of routing and security necessary for Industrial IoT deployments. The Advantage license enables advanced security features including Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for scalability, mobile IP for seamless network migration, and application-aware QoS policies for built-in intelligence.

The IR1000 Series routers come with a single Cisco IOS XE universal image that includes all functions. The software feature licenses (Essentials or Advantage) are pre-installed at the factory based on the selection made at purchase. Licenses can also be upgraded after deployment through the Cisco Smart License activation process.
